Barefoot Kare respects your privacy. We handle your personal health information in keeping with Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). This page explains what we collect, why, how we keep it safe, and what your rights are.
What we collect
When you become a client, we collect your contact details, health history, medications, treatment notes, and, with your permission, photos of your feet. We collect only what we need to care for you safely.
If you contact us through this website, by phone, text or email, we collect the details you share (such as your name, phone number or email, and your question) so we can reply to you.
How we use it
- To provide your care and keep your health records
- To book and manage appointments
- To bill you or your insurer
- To meet our professional record-keeping duties
- To respond to your questions
How we protect it
Your records are kept secure, and access is limited to people involved in your care.
Who we share it with
We share your information only with your consent (for example, with your doctor, or with an insurer you ask us to bill), or when the law requires it. Where the law allows us to rely on your implied consent to share information with others involved in your care, we will tell you.
Appointments are booked through our online booking system. Please share only what you are comfortable sharing when booking online. Details about your health are best discussed with your foot care nurse in person or by phone.
Photos
Photos are always optional, and saying no never affects your care. With your permission, we may take photos of your feet for your private health record. Before-and-after photos used on our website or social media are only shared with your consent, and show no face, name or identifying details. You can change your mind at any time by letting us know.
Your rights
You may ask to see or get a copy of your record, ask us to correct it, withdraw your consent (going forward), or make a complaint.
